ADAS Guide

Faults with ADAS

How do you know if you have a fault with your ADAS?

There are times when you will need your ADAS recalibrated, including:

  • After your windscreen has been replaced
  • When the dashboard shows a fault
  • When your camera has been disconnected, whether this be from maintenance or bad terrain
  • After any suspension work
  • After any wheel alignment work

Windscreen replacements have a knock-on effect on all ADAS systems, so if your vehicle has any of the following repaired or replaced, your cameras will require recalibration:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Adaptive headlights
  • Automatic parking
  • Automotive night vision
  • Blind spot monitor
  • Collision avoidance system
  • Driver drowsiness detection
  • Driver monitoring system
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Lane change assistance
  • Pedestrian protection system
  • Traffic sign recognition

What to do when you have a fault with your ADAS

Something as simple as a windscreen replacement may affect ADAS calibration. It’s crucial you get an experienced professional to recalibrate your ADAS systems to ensure they are working correctly. When we do our windscreen replacements, we ensure your ADAS systems are recalibrated before we send you on your way.

There are two different kinds of calibration:

Mobile calibration

This is where a handheld device is plugged into the car, then the car is driven at a prescribed speed in order to accustom the car to certain conditions. The vehicle manufacturer will give the specifications to ensure you are calibrating the vehicle correctly.

Fixed calibration

This type of calibration is carried out in a specially-designed workspace. It requires a specialist Camera and Sensor Calibration Tool and technicians reference manufacturer calibration settings to ensure an accurate result.
