Manufacturers Electric Car Plans for 2024 and Beyond

Just five years ago there were only 20 types of electric cars available on the market. Now, there are more than 100.

There’s been a clear shift in the industry in recent years, with more and more motorists transitioning to EVs in order to combat climate change and make their vehicles more compliant with green policies.

While American giant Tesla was something of a trailblazer in the electric car industry, many of the world’s biggest named manufacturers have followed suit.

As 2023 enters its final few months, in this article, The Windscreen Company will take a look at the electric car plans some of these automotive powerhouses have in place for 2024 and beyond.

Aston Martin

British supercar company Aston Martin has had something of a rocky start when it comes to its EV ventures.

Its first electric car, a fully electrified GT, was cancelled in 2020 following disastrous financial results and the departure of former boss Andy Palmer.

However, they’ve bounced back with the hybrid plug-in Valhalla supercar which is set for release in 2024. This will be followed by fully electrified powertrain options on all its models by 2026, and it aims for all of its main models to be completely electrified by 2030.

These developments come largely as a result of Mercedes-Benz and Chinese firm Geely increasing their shares in Aston Martin.

Mercedes-Benz

Speaking of Mercedes-Benz, the German giant already has a broad electric car selection, and this is only set to grow.

It has announced three electric-only platforms that will be the foundation of all future models. These are:

These platforms will be introduced in 2025 as Mercedes commit to full electrification.

BMW

Another German manufacturer that is set to expand its EV offering in the coming years is BMW

Currently, they offer the BMW iX1 as the default electric car, and it’s set to be joined by the electric equivalent of its X2 called the iX2. There is also the i4 M50 which is the manufacturer’s first performance electric vehicle, and the i5 will be the electric version of the brand’s luxurious 5 Series.

All of these ranges are set to expand further in the coming years.

Toyota

Toyota has been at the forefront of the hybrid car industry for decades. In fact, its iconic Prius model has been on the roads for over 20 years.

However, it’s been slow and steady when it comes to fully electric vehicles.

Nevertheless, from 2025 onwards this is set to change.

Toyota has partnered with other Japanese car makers, including Mazda, Suzuki and Subaru, to build electric batteries together, and this partnership will see Toyota release 10 fully electric vehicles in 2025 and beyond.

Porsche

Another German company, Porsche was one of the first manufacturers to embrace the potential of electric cars.

Its first fully electric model, Taycan, was a huge hit and was quickly followed by the Taycan Cross Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo.

In 2024, more Porsche models will be electrified including the Macan SUV, Cayman and 718 Boxster. There are also plans to electrify the brand’s iconic 911 model, but this is not likely to happen until after 2030.

New electric car companies

As many of the world’s biggest automotive manufacturers start to transition toward electric cars, a number of new companies have also opened their doors providing stunning EVs.

Let’s take a look at a few…

VinFast

VinFast is a Vietnamese electric car brand based in Singapore that has already started selling EVs in the USA. Its VF8 and VF9 models look set to become more and more popular on American roads, with tens of thousands of units already sold.

What makes VinFast so innovative is that it provides customers with a battery subscription service that separates the cost of the battery from the vehicle itself.

Fisker

Established in the USA in 2016, Fisker was created by leading industry figure Henrik Fisker. It’s fair to say that he has a decent pedigree, as he was the man who designed the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9.

Having now turned his attention to the EV market, his company has already launched one model in the form of the Fisker Ocean. Following its limited production run, Fisker will then release its electric SUV, the Fisker Pear, in 2025.

DeLorean

The brand made famous by the time travelling car in Back to the Future, the original DeLorean brand dissolved in 1982 before being resurrected. Based in Texas, it has recently released some stunning concepts for EV supercars.

This includes the company’s Alpha5 model which features four seats, two vertically opening doors and a charging range of 300 miles.

However, there is no timeline on when the range will be released, with DeLorean only taking reservations at this time.
