Tesla Cybertruck Production to Begin Mid-2023

Business magnate and serial investor Elon Musk has arguably been one of the most talked about people on the planet over the course of the last year. But beyond the debates surrounding his acquisition of Twitter, his clean energy automotive company Tesla has continued to innovate.

Since the company’s inception in 2003, it has been at the forefront of electric vehicle innovation and the Texas-based firm recently announced that production on its latest venture, the Cybertruck, would commence in the middle of 2023.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is one of the industry’s most anticipated new vehicles, and in this blog the team at The Windscreen Company will be taking a closer look at the exciting new product.

What is the Cybertruck?

Described by Tesla as ‘the utility of a truck combined with the performance of a sports car’, the Tesla Cybertruck has been one of the most eagerly awaited new vehicles ever since it was announced back in 2019.

The second generation model of Tesla’s first-ever car, the electric Roadster, it will be perhaps one of the most visually striking electric vehicles the company has ever released. Weighing over 1.6 tonnes and with a length of almost two metres, it will be physically imposing with a futuristic aesthetic that wouldn’t be out of place in a sci-fi film.

In terms of its specifications, the Cybertruck will be able to tow more than six tonnes, have a payload capacity of more than 1.5 tonnes and be suitable for any terrain. Plus, its near-impenetrable exoskeleton will make it one of the most durable vehicles ever produced. Although this didn’t stop the pickup’s windows from somewhat embarrassingly cracking in front of its founder Musk during its launch event.

When will it be released?

With more than 1.5 million people on a waiting list to buy one, and more than two years later than originally planned, production on the Cybertruck is finally set to get underway at an unspecified date later this year. Tesla announced in November that they had begun preparing their Giga Texas manufacturing facility for production. And in December, a photo of a Cybertruck body was leaked to the press.

When it was announced in 2019, those interested in purchasing one could put their name on a waiting list for a refundable £100 deposit. The actual price is set to be around the $40,000 mark. This is the equivalent of about £33,000, but as UK citizens are unable to place orders (it’s only available to the American market), there is a suspicion it’ll cost a lot more for international buyers when it does become available.

In terms of when those on the waiting list can actually expect to be behind the wheel, it’s unlikely to be any time before 2024.
