The SEMA Show 2022

The entertainment city of the world, aka Las Vegas, is famous for many things. From its opulent casinos, vibrant nightlife and questionable Elvis impersonators, it’s fair to say there’s plenty to see and do in Nevada’s biggest city.

2022 saw the city once again welcome back the SEMA Show, one of the automotive industry’s most popular events.

In this article, the team here at The Windscreen Company has put together a summary of this year’s event.

What is the SEMA Show?

SEMA is an acronym for Speciality Equipment Market Association, with the organisation hosting their first event in 1963. Originally, the concept of the show was to provide a place where those in the automotive industry could come together, compare innovations and share new ideas with one another.

It soon became a hit and got bigger and bigger until it became the SEMA Show we know today. Now, the modern iteration of the show sees a combination of industry professionals, manufacturers, YouTubers and celebrity guests head to the event, who share a passion for all things automotive.

As well as continuing to provide a unique platform where those in the industry can collaborate, these days there is also a significant entertainment element to proceedings.

2022 SEMA Show highlights

This year’s SEMA Show took place between the 1st and 4th of November, once again bringing together a whole host of automotive enthusiasts from around the world. Some of the exhibits on show were truly spectacular, put together by industry professionals as well as amateur builders. We’ve compiled a list of some of our highlights of the event.

The SBN all-female build

SEMA Show has always been an inclusive space and welcomes exhibits from all people. Despite being a largely male-dominated industry, one of the highlights of 2022 was a build by an all-female team from the SEMA’s Business Network (SBN).

Coming together again 10 years after their last SEMA build, the team created a 2021 Ford Bronco Wildtrak complete with a variety of modifications including suspension, wheels, tyres, electrical lighting, exhaust and a wrap.

All of the women that took part during the build were volunteers and carried out the work in California. At the event, they discussed the positive impact SEMA has had on supporting their careers within the automotive industry.

The Streethunter 400Z reveal

As previously mentioned, one of the biggest developments of the SEMA Show in recent years is the inclusion of automotive YouTubers who show off their creations at the event. TJ Hunt is a popular YouTuber and automotive content creator who has more than two million subscribers.

At the event, he unveiled his highly anticipated Streethunter 400Z. Using an as-yet-to-be-released 2023 Nissan Z Protos, he used a Laguna blue body kit and completely replaced the front fender which gave it a bold look. He also added bulging side skirts that made it much chunkier.

TJ’s unveiling was clearly one of the show’s best moments.

Ford’s Swiss Army Knife

American manufacturer Ford brought 10 models to this year’s show, but the one with the biggest wow factor was undeniably the F-150 Lightning: Swiss Army Knife. As the name suggests, this vehicle has a range of innovative features.

This includes solar panels, a portable air compressor, bicycle mounts and even a fridge and video game vault.

The SEMA Show will return to the Las Vegas Convention Center once again in 2023, with the event taking place between October 31st and November 3rd. Tickets are already available and, judging by this year’s occasion, it’s sure to be bigger than ever.
