Which EVs have the Longest Range?

There’s no doubt that one of the biggest shifts in the automotive industry we’re likely to see in the coming years will be the move to electric cars (EVs).

Whether it’s motivated by government policy or a desire to be more environmentally friendly, more and more of us are likely to take the plunge and purchase an EV before the 2035 ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel fuel cars comes into force.

In fact, many people are already making the change. In 2022, 25% of all car registrations were EVs — an all-time high that represents a growth of 92% since 2020.

While all the statistics and industry experts suggest that EVs are the future, one of the biggest pain points when purchasing remains concerns about the range of these vehicles. While batteries are getting better, a perceived lack of public charging infrastructure combined with anxiety about running out of juice mid-journey is still putting some people off.

With this in mind, in this article we’ll look ahead to 2024, outlining which EVs have the longest range.

EVs with the longest range in 2024

As the technology improves and develops, the battery capacity for EVs is getting longer and longer. Having a significant range helps alleviate stress when driving and improves the overall driving experience, so it’s clear to see why so many EV manufacturers are prioritising this.

Take a look at the list of EVs with the best range below:

  • Lucid Air

While certainly at the upper end of the spectrum in terms of budget, the Lucid Air is currently the best EV on the market in terms of range. The American manufacturers entered the Air into production in 2021, and since then the range has steadily increased.

Currently, the range is around 419 miles for the standard model, but the premium Grand Touring model extends this to 516 miles.

  • Tesla Model S

Tesla has been at the front of the EV market for over a decade, and while the Tesla Model S isn’t a new vehicle, it’s still one of the best you can purchase when looking for long-range.

The current version of the Model S has a range of around 405 miles, which is more than double what it was capable of when it first entered the market back in 2012.

  • Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T is a bit different to others in this list in the sense that it’s a fully electric pickup truck rather than a conventional road car. Its boxy shape and formidable size make it a popular choice in rural environments, and it also packs an impressive range of 400 miles.

  • Hyundai Ioniq 6

One of the more affordable EVs if you’re buying it new, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 only became available in the UK in March 2023, but it has quickly become one of the most efficient EVs around due to its great range of 361 miles.

  • Tesla Model 3

Back to Tesla now, and the brand’s Model 3 is arguably the most popular and recognisable EV on the market.

While it doesn’t have as long a range as the Model S, it can still travel around 358 miles between charges, so is more than capable of getting you from A to B on most journeys.

Which EVs have a 400 mile range in 2024?

There are only a few EVs that currently have a range of 400 miles or more, but this is likely to change in the future as battery technology develops and ranges increase. This means that people will be able to get further on one charge.

At the moment, the only EVs that have a range of 400 miles or more are the ones we listed above. These are the Lucid Air, Tesla Model S and Rivian R1T.

For reference, 400 miles would be able to get you from our Ipswich depot to the middle of Germany (via the channel tunnel). Or if you wanted to stay in the UK, you could travel to Cornwall or Scotland on that charge.
